Brewing Calculators index page To calculate the required temperature of your mash strike water enter your data into the yellow boxes and select your input units from the green drop down boxes. After you have filled in all the yellow boxes hit 'Calculate'.
Explanation of the Calculator. This calculator uses the formulae below. More explanation will be posted soon. Strike Temp = desired mash temp
x (litres water + (0.4 x kg malt)) – (0.4 x kg malt x malt temp) The above equation uses kg and ˚C units. If you use different units the
backend of the calculator converts to these metric units first before running
the equation. I will get some more explanation up soon, but the basic theory
behind the calculator is that it takes 0.4 times the amount of energy to heat up
1kg of malt compared to 1kg of water. |
