We have cut members that have not made any posts

Hi all,

Some you may have noticed Chris, Pete and I talking about cutting users that have not made any posts on the forum. We have now done this so the members list has been reduced by at least half. We think that most of these users were either attempting spam or no longer following the forum so overall we are better off cutting them. However, if we have cut some people that were planning to make posts or following topics I apologise. If you are one of these users you will have to re-register. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that is in this situation so I can take it into consideration when we next think about doing a cut.

The only way in future to avoid being cut is to leave at least one post on the forum. A good way of doing this is to introduce yourself.

Don't think it worked Ben as there as some very doubtfull posts after this one!!!!.....or is it just the home brew!!!

No it is not just the home brew, but that could be a contributing factor.

I have deleted the dodgy posts.

It is a problem. The spam problem seems to be getting worse. I will see if I can try and find another MOD to help keep them out.

I have just added an extra field where new users have to answer a simple question correctly to register. Hopefully this will cut a bit of the spam. I have also just done another cull of members that have not made a post (sorry again to genuine users that got cut).

We will have to wait to see if the new measures reduce spam.

It looked like we were getting 4 or 5 new members a day. As much as I'd like to hope that they were all genuine, it looks like we've been targetted by some coordinated spamming. Hopefully the change Ben made will help.

It looks like the new security measures are working. It has been 2 days and there have been no new spam users sign up or make posts. Fingers Crossed that this continues.

Yeah it wouldnt be bad if they were spaming something worth it like free beer or some free all grain equipment
It was getting a bit monotonous, They must get something out of it or they wouldnt do it mongrels
