Pilsner Urquell - Yum

Postby bhami » Sun Jun 10, 2007 4:42 pm

Last night I had a Pilsner Urquell for the first time in a while. It was the only decent beer they had in a pub I went to. And I have to say it is a darn fine beer, I had forgotten how good it is. It is so well balanced between its maltiness, bitterness and hop flavours. If you haven't tried this world famous beer (due to its claim to be the worlds first pale beer) I suggest you grab one and give it a go.

Cheers

Having just finished a nice Morgans saaz pilsner, I wouldn't mind giving it a go. How hard is it to get hold of (what I mean is will I find it in my local liqorland)?

You will see it from time to time but I don't know if liquorland will carry it. But then again it may as it is a very famous beer. Basically I don't know so I probably should stop guessing.

Try BWS. I don't know if you have Dan Murhpys in Cairns but they like BWS do have access to it. The Coles group stores such as 1st choice, Vintage Cellars and Liquorland also have access but don't always carry it. Woolworths and Coles are sometimes reluctant to go head to head with the same product due to their price guarantee. But try any of these stores and you should have some luck.

It's definitely worth the search but if you can't find it, try any of the Czech pilsners. The original Budvar is also good. There are a few on the market and the person in the shop should be able to let you know what they have. Well, maybe - most of the people working in my local bottleshops haven't got a clue, especially the big ones where they claim to be very professional.

Drinking an Urquell now. Bought it from 1st Choice. They may be the first place to look. It was $9.90 per six pack. I don't know what the carton price was but that's still cheaper than a lot of the domestic stuff for a six pack. No comment on what I think is the better beer.

Think I'll have to go to the First Choice store up here. I picked up a six pack from BWS the other day and they ripped me off 19.95 for a six-pack!! Still, after chasing it down, I agree it is quite a nice beer. I won't be paying 19.95 for it too often tho!

I was at 1st Choice on the weekend and they were back up to $15.95 for a six-pack. The prices seem to be fluctuating a lot on many brands at the moment.

I bought a slab of it from Dan Murphys a couple of weeks ago for $39.95. Not sure if it was a special or a regular price.

Cheers
